4-9-13 Sullivan places 4th at WYSE State Finals
The Sullivan High School WYSE team scored 365 points to earn 4th place in the 700 division at the State Finals hosted by the University of Illinois, a single point behind Macomb. Pleasant Plains won the event while Monticello finished 2nd. Over 350 schools in Illinois participated in the Academic Challenge with over 100 schools in the 700 division. Trophies and medals were awarded to the top five schools in each division. Cameron Jones placed 2nd in engineering graphics, earning a $1000 scholarship to the Engineering program at U of I, and he also earned 6th place in mathematics. Sullivan’s had their first-ever state qualifying team in 2012, and this year was the first time that they placed in the top five.
3-7-13 Sullivan WYSE advances to State Finals in back-to-back years
The Sullivan High School WYSE Team placed 3rd in the 700 division regional Academic Challenge at Lake Land College on Thursday, March 7 and will advance to the State competition at the University of Illinois. Sullivan students earned the final state qualifying position behind Monticello and Robinson.
Individual medal winners included Cameron Jones, who placed 1st in Engineering
Graphics, and Adam Davis, who placed 3rd in Chemistry.
In 2012, Cameron Jones, Travis Hanson, Lucas Mossman, and John Mauck were part of Sullivan’s WYSE Team that qualified for state for the 1st time in school history, which finished 9th.

The Sullivan High School WYSE Team placed 1st in the 700 division regional Academic Challenge at Lake Land College on Friday and will advance to sectionals at Eastern Illinois University. Sullivan students earned 492 out of a possible 500 points to take 1st place while Teutopolis High School finished 2nd with 456 and Paris Cooperative High School placed 3rd with 437.
Individual medal winners included Lucas Mossman- tied for 3rd in Biology, John Mauck- tied for 2nd in Biology, Brent Mauck- 1st in Biology, Patrick Hogan- tied for 3rd in Chemistry-Reagan Miller, tied for 3rd in Chemistry and Physics, Travis Hanson- 2nd in Chemistry and 3rd in Engineering Graphics, Adam Davis- 1st in Chemistry, Shawn Cody- 2nd in Computer Science, Shelbi Tingey- tied for 3rd in Physics, and Cameron Jones- 2nd in Math and 1st in Engineering Graphics. Jones also earned $2000 in tuition waivers to Lake Land College for having the overall 1st and 2nd place scores in his categories. Sullivan students earned 13 of the 21 medals this year, more than any year prior.

The Sullivan High School Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering Team competed in the State Academic Challenge on Tuesday, April 3rd.Of the 24 teams qualifying for the state competition, Sullivan students earned 9th place.Individually, John Miller placed 3rd in Engineering Graphics with a score of 27 out of 40.Sullivan’s top scorers included Travis Hanson and Cameron Harvey in Biology, John Mauck and Lucas Mossman in Chemistry, John Miller and Kent Hansonin Engineering Graphics, Micah Plank and Lauren Harris in English, and Micah Plank and Kent Hanson in Math.Other members of the team included Kyle Cody, Paige Henderson, Bryce Miller, Patrick Miller, Austin Wagner, and Ashley Yantis.The top six teams and individuals in each subject receive awards. Sullivan is coached by physics and chemistry teacher Ted Walk.He said, “The kids were thrilled to be a part of Sullivan’s first ever state-qualifying team.To come away in the top ten is a fantastic accomplishment.It is a testament to the hard work that these young men and women have put towards their academic

2-3-12 Sullivan earns 2nd in WYSE Regional
Twenty-three teams totaling over 300 participants competed in the WYSE Academic Challenge regional at Lake Land College on Friday, February 3rd. Of the eight teams in the 700 division, Sullivan High School students were able to earn 2nd place with a score of 445 behind Effingham St. Anthony’s score of 471. Sullivan student Cameron Jones finished 1st in the 700 division in both Chemistry and Engineering Graphics, while John Miller placed 2nd in Engineering Graphics and John Mauck tied for 2nd in Chemistry.
Lake Land College offers $500 tuition waivers to the top two overall scores in each subject area. Two Sullivan High School students were able to earn three of these tuition waivers. Cameron Jones achieved the overall top score in both Chemistry and Engineering Graphics, and John Miller had the 2nd highest overall score in Engineering Graphics. 3-11-11 2011 WYSE Team one point shy of advancement to State
Sullivan placed 4th in the 2011 Sectional WYSE competition at Eastern Illinios University with a score of 403, just one point shy of advancing to state as a team.
Team members include Jared Ferguson, Justin Grohler, Kent Hanson, Lauren Harris, Cameron Harvey, Paige Henderson, Cameron Jones, John Mauck, Bryce Miller, John Miller, Lucas Mossman, Micah Plank, Zach Righter, and Andrew Sparrow.
Individual medal winners were Cameron Jones (3rd-English), John Miller (2nd-Engineering Graphics), and Andrew Sparrow (1st-Engineering Graphics).

2-4-11 Sullivan Advances to WYSE Sectional
Sullivan placed 2nd in the 700 division at the 2011 Regional WYSE competition at Lake Land College and will advance to the sectional at Eastern Illinois University. Andrew Sparrow and John Miller placed 1st and 2nd in Engineering Graphics, Cameron Jones and John Mauck placed 1st and 2nd in Biology, Micah Plank placed 1st in Chemistry, and Cameron Jones placed 2nd in English.
